Lancaster Balloon Festival

Day 1

WASHINGTON, D.C. • DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER MEMORIAL:

Today we travel to Washington, DC. We visit the Dwight D. Eisenhower Memorial, DC’s newest memorial. The park-like plaza is designed to honor and perpetuate President Eisenhower’s contributions to the United States as the Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces in Europe during WWII and as the 34th President. As time allows we will visit other monuments and memorials around the Mall area.
Day 2

SMITHSONIAN NATIONAL ZOO • LANCASTER, PA • DAVID AT SIGHT & SOUND THEATRE • DINNER:

The National Zoo, is one of the oldest Zoo’s in the U.S., founded in 1889. This morning we visit the zoo and you don’t want to miss seeing the giant pandas, elephants, lemurs, great apes, cheetahs, and many more while at this national treasure. Next, we travel to Lancaster, PA where this afternoon we see the newest production of “David” at the Sight and Sound Theatre. Master Poet. Fearless Warrior. Anointed King. From still waters to shadowed valleys, David’s ascent to the throne is filled with towering giants, wild animals, and Philistine soldiers. After unprecedented victories lead to devastating failures, this passionate warrior will face the biggest battle of all: the one within himself. Come alongside this young shepherd on his journey to become a man after God’s own heart. We enjoy dinner together after the show then check into our Lancaster area hotel for our 2-night stay. (D)
Day 3

LANDIS VALLEY VILLAGE & FARM MUSEUM • AMISH HOME LUNCH • BIRD-IN-HAND MARKET • LANCASTER HOT AIR BALLOON FESTIVAL:

Landis Valley Village & Farm Museum provides visitors with the history of Pennsylvania Germans and tells the stories of their contributions to our nation. Here, costumed guides will give details of the site which includes over 100,000 artifacts, historic gardens and crops, open hearth cooking and baking, historic animal breeds, and traditional Pennsylvania German craft and trade demonstrations. We travel to the countryside where we will enjoy a delicious lunch provided by an Amish family in their home. Next, we will visit Bird-in-Hand Farmers Market. It features delicious offerings, including fresh meats, cheeses, produce, and a wide variety of baked goods. Back at the hotel we have time to relax before our evening out. The Lancaster Hot Air Balloon Festival is a one-of-kind event. The festival is held in the village of Bird-in-Hand and features the mass ascension of dozens of big, beautiful balloons, family entertainment, music, fireworks, delicious food, and Amish goods. The highlight of the evening is the Balloon Glow. Watch as dozens of spectacular hot air balloons take flight together, fires igniting to illuminate the evening sky with dazzling colors. There will be music and fireworks making this a unique and exciting experience. (L)
Day 4

HOME:

This morning we travel home. We’ve enjoyed time in Washington, relived the story of “David” at Sight & Sound Theatre, learned about the contributions of the Pennsylvania Germans, and saw some spectacular balloons at the Lancaster Hot Air Balloon Festival. These memories will delight us for years to come.
