Day 2
MISSIONARY RIDGE TRAIN •
CHATTANOOGA CHOO CHOO
• INCLINE RAILWAY • ROCK CITY
• DINNER:
Up & at 'em early this
morning! Today we begin at Grand
Junction Station on the vintage short
line train, crossing over four bridges
and through pre-Civil War Missionary
Ridge Tunnel. We have time to visit the
Chattanooga Choo Choo train, once
owned and operated by the Southern
Railway, and now part of a 30-acre
resort complex. After time for lunch,
we ride the Incline Railway up Lookout
Mountain. Here we visit Rock City to
see the natural wonders, including rock
formations and flowering gardens,
then experience views of seven states.
We return to the hotel to freshen up.
This evening we enjoy dinner together
at one of Chattanooga's delightful
restaurants. (L, D)
Day 3
RUBY FALLS • HOME:
Today we
visit one of Chattanooga's famous
attractions, Ruby Falls, a 145 foot high
waterfall. The Falls are located at the
end of the main passage of Ruby Falls
Cave, in a large vertical shaft. The
stream, 1120 feet underground, is fed
both by rainwater and natural springs.
It collects in a pool in the cave floor and
continues through the mountain until
finally joining the Tennessee River at
the base of Lookout Mountain. We've
learned quite a bit about Chattanooga
this weekend. Now we travel home
with the memory of the delightful time
we've had.
