Day 1
PENNSYLVANIA • DINNER:
This morning we begin our
journey to Lake Placid, a perfect place to immerse ourselves
in Fall. A quaint little village surrounded by the Adirondack
Mountains, expect to see beauty all around. We travel to
Pennsylvania today and have an included dinner before
checking into our hotel. (D)
Day 2
JIM THORPE • OLD JAIL • MAUCH CHUNK MUSEUM
• ASA PACKER MANSION • ST MARK’S CHURCH:
Today we travel north into the Poconos where we find the
charming town of Jim Thorpe. Nestled at the southern part
of the mountain range, we visit the Old Jail, once home to
the “Molly Maguires”, and Mauch Chunk Museum where we
discover how Pennsylvania’s landscape was forever changed
by coal mining. We stop by the historic Pocono Mountains
mansion of Asa Packer whose accomplishments include
building Lehigh Valley Railroad and founding Lehigh University.
We’ll explore the highlights, history, architecture and artwork
of St. John’s and St. Mark’s Church. From the Tiffany windows
to the amazing Caen stone reredos, it’s a sight to behold.
We overnight in Lehighton this evening.
Day 3
DELAWARE WATER GAP •
BUSHKILL FALLS •
MUSEUM AT BETHEL WOODS:
Delaware Water Gap provides an
opportunity to be immersed in
striking scenery along 40 miles
of the longest free-flowing river
east of the Mississippi. On our
drive through the area, we see
Bushkill Falls, a unique series of
eight waterfalls, nestled deep in
the wooded Pocono Mountains.
Some visit the Museum at Bethel
Woods to relive the past and
their journey to Woodstock.
Others come to experience what
it was like for the first time. As we step inside the exhibit,
we can glance back at the unique experience of the 1969
festival and see the stories of those who were actually there.
We check in our area hotel later today.
Day 4
GREAT CAMP SAGAMORE • RAQUETTE LAKE BRUNCH
CRUISE • THE ADIRONDACK EXPERIENCE •
LAKE PLACID:
Whether as a private residence, a sportsman’s
retreat, or an entertainment headquarters, people have been
enjoying Sagamore and its surrounding wild lands for over
a hundred years. After marveling at the rustic luxury enjoyed
by the Vanderbilt family at the Great Camp Sagamore, we
indulge our senses with a gourmet brunch and a historic
cruise on Raquette Lake. Next we explore the fascinating
regional history at the Adirondack Experience. With over 20
historical and contemporary buildings on 121 acres overlooking
Blue Mountain Lake, this open air campus offers lots to see
and do. Our home for the next two nights is in Lake Placid. L
Day 5
LAKE PLACID • MT VAN HOEVENBERG • OLYMPIC
JUMPING COMPLEX SKYRIDE GONDOLA AND
ELEVATOR • LAKE PLACID OLYMPIC CENTER • DINNER:
Our local guide joins us today as we begin a scenic drive up
Veterans Memorial Highway to the stunning mountaintop
of Whiteface Summit. An elevator brings us to the top for
360-degree, panoramic views. Next our adventure takes us
to beautiful Mount Van Hoevenberg for a walking-riding
excursion. We have lunch on our own in Lake Placid then hop
on the Skyride Gondola for a ride to the base of the jump
towers at the Olympic Jumping Complex then take the glass
elevator to enjoy the best views at the tower platform of the
128 meter jump. Our last stop will be where Miracle on Ice
took place, the Lake Placid Olympic Center. Journey through
the historic halls and visit ice rinks immersed in the Olympic
Legacy. We have a dinner included together this evening. (D)
Day 6
FORT WILLIAM HENRY MUSEUM • LAKE GEORGE
CRUISE:
Located in the southern part of the Adirondacks,
is Lake George, one of the world’s cleanest and clearest of
the large lakes. On the lake’s shore, we see Fort William Henry
Museum. Visiting the museum, we are greeted by a knowledgeable
18th-century military guide in period uniform.
Transported back to the French and Indian War when British
and French forces clashed over territory, we see the life of a
soldier as we explore the fort’s grounds and witness the
dramatic power of live musket and cannon fire making history
truly come to life. Next we enjoy a boxed lunch and cruise
on Lake George to experience the beauty of the lake and
the surrounding Adirondack Mountains. Enjoy the colors
of Fall as we ride through the famous Catskill Mountains,
arriving later today for our overnight stop. (L)
Day 7
NEMOURS ESTATE • TOBY’S DINNER THEATRE:
After lunch we arrive at Nemours Estate. This 300-acre
country estate of the late industrialist and philanthropist,
Alfred I. DuPont. The 4700 square foot mansion looms over
the surrounding formal gardens and is furnished with fine
antiques, famous artwork and other treasures. Traveling on,
we arrive south of Baltimore in time to check in, then tonight
we take our seats at Toby’s Dinner Theatre for a buffet dinner
and a musical performance of “Saturday Night Fever.” (D)
Day 8
HOME:
Filled with loads of fun, lots of great food and
fabulous fall foliage, what an awesome trip we have had!
