Virginia is for lovers of music, mountains, lakes, train rides, and so much more! No matter what your interests, this trip should spark enthusiasm. Rolling into Roanoke, we begin our explorations with an included lunch followed by a stop for shopping lovers at Black Dog Salvage. Discover architectural salvage, old house parts, custom upcycled designs, and shop for unique gifts and souvenirs. Through exciting interactive exhibits and artifacts, Virginia Museum of Transportation highlights our nation’s transportation history by providing a unique and fascinating museum experience, for our lovers of everything pertaining to rail, auto and aviation. Train lovers will especially enjoy what comes next! We climb aboard the Amtrak train for a scenic ride from Roanoke to Charlottesville along the eastern side of the Blue Ridge Mountains. We are met in Charlottesville, have dinner on our own and then check into our hotel for a two nights’ stay. (L)

After breakfast, we take a short ride rolling into Thomas Jefferson’s mountaintop home, Monticello. Perfect for lovers of history, no other home in the US provides a more accurate reflection of the personality and life of its owner than Monticello. Beginning his design of the plantation at the early age of 14, Jefferson made it his primary home and incorporated his preferences into the home and gorgeous outdoor gardens. Lunch will be included at Michie Tavern, a historic tavern serving Southern fare. We roll on to Highland, the historic home of James Monroe. The home showcases beautifully preserved architecture among the scenic landscape. Our day continues with a drive through the University of Virginia to admire their campus. We stop for dinner before returning to our hotel for the night. (L)

Welcome aboard the Virginia Dare for a leisurely cruise across Smith Mountain Lake, enjoying a delicious lunch while soaking in the natural beauty of the lake and its wildlife.
